Car Servicing in Canterbury at Your Home or Work
Written by Petro Olekhnovych, mobile mechanic in Aylesham, Kent
Yes, you can get car servicing in Canterbury without taking your car to a garage. We come to your home or workplace and carry out an interim or full service there. Labour is £30-£50 per hour, and we agree the price on WhatsApp before we start.
Interim or full service?
Most cars need one of two types of service. The RAC describes an interim service as a set of checks to keep your car running smoothly between full services. A full service is more thorough and covers every major system.
As a general guide, the RAC says a full service is often recommended every 12 months or 12,000 miles. An interim service is usually every 6 months or 6,000 miles. But every car is different. The RAC says to follow your manufacturer, so check your handbook or service book.
Some jobs are due on time, not mileage. If your car does few miles around the city, it can still be due a service because of its age.
How it works at your home or workplace
The process is simple:
Message us on WhatsApp with the make, model and mileage. A photo of the last service stamp helps.
We agree the price for labour, and talk through which parts are needed.
We come to you on the agreed day, at home or at work.
We carry out the service and tell you about anything else we spot.
The workplace option suits many people who work in the city. The car is serviced while you work, so you do not lose a morning sitting in a waiting room.
There is a full step-by-step guide in our post on how mobile car servicing works.

What to have ready
A little preparation makes the day go smoothly.
Somewhere safe to work. A driveway, private car park or quiet space is ideal. We need room to open the bonnet and get around the car.
Permission at work. If we are coming to your workplace car park, check with your employer or site manager first.
The keys and any locking wheel nut key.
Your service book or records, so we can see what was done last time.
The car’s handbook, if you have it, for the manufacturer’s schedule and oil grade.
If anything has been bothering you, such as a noise, a warning light or a vibration, tell us when you book. We can look at it on the same visit.
Parking in Canterbury
Parking is the main practical question in the city. Many streets near the centre are in residents’ permit zones.
Canterbury City Council offers visitor vouchers for residents and runs a tradesperson waiver for people who need their vehicle to work in the district. The council says waiver users must keep clear of bus stops and other designated spaces. If you live in a permit zone, tell us when you book so we can plan where to park.
We cover parking, flats and permit zones in more detail in our post on mobile mechanics and parking in Canterbury.
What a service usually covers
What goes into a service depends on the car and the type of service. Common jobs include:
Engine oil and oil filter change
Air filter and cabin (pollen) filter
Fuel filter, on petrol and diesel cars where due
Checks on brakes, fluids, lights, tyres and wipers
Our car service checklist sets out the items in detail. If you drive a diesel, our post on diesel car servicing in Canterbury explains the extra points to watch.
Larger jobs such as timing belts and water pumps can also be done at your home, but they take longer. We will tell you if your car is close to its interval.
What it costs and why
There is no single price for a service. It depends on the car, the type of service, the parts needed and how easy the car is to work on. A small petrol hatchback is usually quicker than a large diesel.
Our labour is £30-£50 per hour depending on the job and its difficulty. Parts are extra. We agree the price on WhatsApp before any work starts, so there are no surprises.
