You can get car servicing in Dover without taking your car to a garage. We come to your home or workplace and carry out interim and full services on your driveway or in the car park. Labour is £30-£50 per hour, and we agree the price on WhatsApp before any work starts.

What a mobile car service in Dover includes

We carry out the same core jobs you would expect from a garage service. That includes the engine oil and oil filter, air filter, cabin or pollen filter and fuel filter where the schedule calls for it, plus a check over the brakes and other safety items.

An interim service is a lighter service, usually between full services. A full service goes further and replaces more parts. Exactly what your car needs depends on its make, model, age and mileage, so check your handbook or service book for the right schedule.

Our car service checklist explains what is usually checked and replaced at each level, so we will not repeat it all here.

How Dover driving affects your car

Every car wears differently depending on how it is used. A few things are worth thinking about if you live or work in and around Dover.

Stop-start port traffic. The RAC says urban driving, with constant stop-start traffic, uses the brakes far more often than motorway driving. It adds that congested motorways also wear pads quickly. If your daily drive includes queues near the port or slow traffic on the approach roads, your brake pads may wear faster than the mileage suggests.

A20 queues during port disruption. GOV.UK describes Dover TAP as a system that queues port-bound lorries in the nearside lane of the A20 after the Roundhill Tunnel. Kent County Council reported that Dover TAP was activated 22 times during the 2024 summer getaway. If you commute on the A20 at busy times, expect more slow running and more braking.

Loaded cars and holiday trips. The RAC says frequently carrying heavy loads means more braking force, which shortens pad and disc life. A car packed for a trip to France, or one that tows, works its brakes harder.

Sea air. Living near the coast can mean more corrosion underneath the car. We cover what to look for in our guide to coastal car rust checks in Kent.

None of this means you need to service more often than the manufacturer says. It does mean the brake check at each service is worth taking seriously.

Servicing and the MOT are not the same thing

A service keeps the car in good working order. An MOT is a legal test of roadworthiness. They are often done around the same time, but one does not replace the other.

GOV.UK says most cars need their first MOT by the third anniversary of registration. You can get an MOT up to a month minus a day before it runs out and keep the same renewal date. Driving without a valid MOT can lead to a fine of up to £1,000.

Many drivers book a service shortly before the MOT so any worn parts are dealt with first. We also do pre-MOT checks.

Booking a service in Dover

Booking is simple. Send a WhatsApp with:

  • the make, model and year of your car

  • the mileage, or a photo of the dashboard

  • what the service book says is due, if you have it

  • where the car will be, at home or at work

We will tell you what the service involves and agree the price before we arrive. Parts are extra and depend on your car. Because we come to you, there is no need to arrange a lift or wait at a garage.

If you are heading for the ferry, read our advice on car checks before Dover port queues as well.

When not to wait for a service

Some problems should not wait for the next service date. If your brakes grind, the pedal feels soft, the temperature gauge climbs, the oil pressure light comes on or the engine light flashes, stop driving and get the car checked. These faults can be dangerous or cause serious damage if you carry on.
